About this course
Have you always wanted to master the art of oil painting? Develop your water-mixable oil painting skills with 24 instruction videos, lesson notes and painting activities in 10 masterclass lessons with international artist and teacher Terrill Welch. The Independent Study of Skill Building Masterclass in oil painting offers an introductory unit "Beginning before the Beginning" followed by 10 lessons (roughly weekly lessons though you can go as fast or as slow as you want) about using non-solvent oil paints and more for beginner and experienced painters wanting to learn a new media and advance their painting skills. Terrill Welch takes students through the basics of masterly and painterly use of oils using water-mixable oil paints. She offers skill development about painting with natural light from life and using reference materials using wet-into-wet painting methods. Each lesson has a specific focus intended to build towards a strong ongoing oil painting practice.
What students say about the class:
"I have taken two art classes online with Terrill Welch. These have been challenging and engaging classes. Terrill guides her students through an appreciation of the beauty of painting with oils. I am impressed by how she instructs students in the fundamentals of what oils and brushes to use... She has a unique gift of bringing joy to her work and bringing out joy in her students as she engages them individually and collectively. She provides a superb foundation for the pleasure of painting for beginners and further developing one’s skills for the experienced artist. Whether you are interested in painting, or have been painting for some time, I would encourage you to take classes with Terrill. You will discover a whole new way of looking at art and the life around you." - Charles van Heck
"I can’t say enough positive things about Terrill and taking oil painting classes with her. As some of you know, when I started, I had never even held an oil painting brush and had to go to the first class early as I couldn’t figure out how to open my easel... If you ever considered trying oil painting, or diving deeper with an established practice, please join us." – Katherine Cox Stevenson
"So very excited to be continuing my painting classes with this wonderful woman. She is highly knowledgeable & kind & the best of instructors I have ever had. Oh, forgot to mention how patient she is…" – Glenda K.
