About this course

I created this course to help folx understand and practice the radical relating made possible by the principles of Relationship Anarchy. What I love about Relationship Anarchy is that it centers our autonomy (our rights to choose for ourselves and our dignified boundaries) while allowing creativity (we craft our own unique commitments, one relation at a time) and encouraging non-coercion (we don't control other people's choices.)

Because it's anarchy, Relationship Anarchy prioritizes the values of autonomy, free association, and mutual aid. While the first two might tilt the values towards a more Relationship Libertarianism, the value of mutual aid returns us to the commitment to liberation and support for all, and the fight against systemic oppression.

These practices of freedom and loving friendship make sense to me, and help me unpack the internalized oppressive beliefs and assumptions I was indoctrinated into during my upbringing in late 20th Century U.S. culture. I want this course to help all of us liberate our personal relations from oppressive beliefs and assumptions that get in the way of love, connection, freedom, and care. We can design our lives by relating with the people who align with our values and practices and by customizing our relations to reflect the alchemy of our unique connection with another.

In this webinar, we will explore Andie Nordgren's Short Instructional Manifesto for Relationship Anarchy. Examples of how each principle change how we relate will offer participants an introduction to the ideas and practices of autonomous, cooperative, choice-filled relating.

This course does not touch on the history of Relationship Anarchy theory and practice. I do briefly explore the intersection between the vastness of Anarchist theory and the way those ideas might influence the practice of Relationship Anarchy.

Each time I offer a course, I bring all the tools and resources I have available to the learning experiences of students. I am excited to share the empowerment and freedom of Relationship Anarchy with all of you.
