About this course
Join us to celebrate Fómhar Season, from Autumn Equinox to Samhain
Explore the season from Autumn Equinox on September 22nd through to Samhain, traditionally celebrated on November 1st.
This is a time of ripening and harvesting, of closing and ending as we prepare for the new Celtic year that begins in the darkness of Samhain. It is a time of duality as we shift from the balance of light and dark marked by the Equinox and begin the shift to shorter days and longer nights. At this time we also embrace the seasonal duality and balance as the energies shift in a dance between waxing and waning, Yin and Yang, divine masculine and divine feminine.
Let us celebrate and honour this time of ripening and harvesting, of duality and balance, of closing and ending as we prepare for the new Celtic year that begins in the darkness of Samhain.
We will explore Fómhar (Irish for Autumn Equinox, pronounced "for-uhr" or "fove-uhr"), its origins and lore in the Celtic world, including its connection to the Spring Equinox. And we will explore the season up to Samhain using the framework of the Celtic cosmology of Land, Sea and Sky — which exists in both the physical and spiritual realms — including practices, rituals, craft, deities, animal allies, and more.
- Land (Talam), Middle World: Land holds the magic of our physical world and its energetic counterpart, our Self and all those who inhabit the Earth such as plants, trees herbs and crystals, animals of all kinds. In Land, we will explore our Autumn correspondences such as Water and West, and our animal allies Stag and Doe. Working with the Autumnal waning energies, we will craft a falling leaf essence and meditate with the falling leaves.
- Sea (Muir), Under World: Sea is our magical connections with the Sídhe(the Faerie realms) and others who reside in this realm including ancestors and other spirits. It is a place for journeys (aka imramma), rituals, exploring deities associated with water and the underworld. We will explore a Equinox Season Water Balance ritual, also perfect for first and third quarter moons.
- Sky (Nem), Upper World: Sky holds the medicine of the Sun, Moon and Stars; lunar/solar events, divination, sacred crafts of Air, and deities and allies of the Sky realm, and our connection to Spirit. in Sky, we will explore the energies of An Cailleach as she emerges for Winter, the Equinox / Waning Year deity connections such as Inanna, and the Samhain Full Moon on October 31st.
A new favourite element — Resources for your Practice — is also included in this course, and includes activities such as how to consecrate a sacred object and make a protective amulet.
Initial course content will be available on September 18th, with additional lessons and activities scheduled throughout September and October.
