About this course
Course 1: In this course "Understanding, Assessing, and Diagnosing Substance Use Disorders", you will gain a greater understanding of why it is important for mental health professionals to know about substance use disorders (SUDs). Students will also learn about primary theories of addiction, how the brain is impacted by substance use, the DSM-5 classification of substances, and the role that trauma plays in creating and sustaining addictions. Our courses are laid out systematically, with each module building on the next. Course 2: In this course "Treatment Strategies and Sustainable Recovery for Substance Use Disorders", you will learn how to select and utilize evidence-based and recommended treatment strategies for client’s diagnosed with a substance use disorder (SUD). Students will also learn how to identify common co-occurring mental health disorders, create recurrence prevention plans, develop sustainable recovery strategies, and gain a better understanding of the difference between abstinence vs. harm reduction models.
