Hi, I'm Laura Volpintesta, your creative guide to unleashing your voice and vision in fashion art and design!
I've been teaching fashion design at the prestigious Parsons School of Design's Fashion Design departement since 1997. (from Patternnmaking, sewing/garment construction and draping to Portfolio, Model drawing and Design concept development).
You can join me for now for weekly live talks over the next 6 months starting October 2022! We'll meet Wednesday evenings 7-8:30 pm Eastern for 26 weeks AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THE BOOK to participate in the course. (like for payment plans at the bottom of this page, but there's a pay-in-full bonus available as well- keep reading!)
In the LANGUAGE OF FASHION DESIGN program, I'll introduce and discuss one of the 26 Principles from my book "the Language of Fashion Design": 26 Principles Every Fashion Designer Should know"( available in hard copy and digital and 5 languages (description below) each week--
You can listen, take notes or sketch, and participate in Q and A,, and in our private course area you can ask questions, share sketches and ,resources, and encourage and witness each other! I'll also be sharing processes and techniques for creative and technical design that you can apply each week to hone and refine your vision and experience of seeing, creating and talking about fashion design.

YALE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY JOURNAL REVIEW:
(she called it "ENTHUSIASTIC" and "OMNIVEROUS". I LOVE THAT!!!!)
The Language of Fashion Design: 26 Principles Every Fashion Designer Should Know
ISBN 9781592538218
"Twenty-six elements of fashion design make up the alphabet alluded to in the title's "language" conceit, including material aspects like drape, texture, volume, and contrast alongside more abstract principles such as function, motif, collection, and direction. Each concept features one exemplary designer: Rei Kawakubo for deconstruction, Diane von Furstenberg for print, etc. Rather than repeat the usual parade of famous names, however, Volpintesta (portfolio, model drawing, concept development, Parsons The New School for Design) highlights an international roster of designers, many without flagship stores or star status. The variety and number of illustrations are a major strength of this book, which also includes a brief glossary after the main text. The author points out notable design details via captions to sketches, drawings, and runway photographs from a multitude of sources. Written at a textbook level, this work's utility lies not in critical or historical perspective, but in its omnivorous, enthusiastic gathering and mapping out of global ideas to serve as inspiration for students beginning to learn the language of fashion."
"VERDICT Illustrative images teach fashion principles by showing not telling. Recommended for libraries that serve design schools and aspiring designers."

About the book:
“Learning a new discipline is similar to learning a new language; in order to master the foundation of fashion design, you must first master the basic building blocks of its language - the definitions, function, and usage. The Language of Fashion Design provides students and fashion designers with the basic elements of fashion design, divided into twenty-six easy-to-comprehend chapters. This visual reference includes an introductory, historical view of the elements, as well as an overview of how these elements can and have been used across multiple design disciplines. Whether you're new to the field or have been a fashion designer for years, you'll want to flip through the pages of this book throughout your career and use it as the go-to reference for inspiration, ideas, and reminders of how a strong knowledge of the basics allows for meaningful, memorable, and beautiful fashion that extends beyond trends. This comprehensive learning tool is the one book you'll want as a staple in your library.”- Amazon
